Serpent Sediment Sluicing

Haakon Støle, a scientist and professor at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) developed the "Serpent Sediment Sluicing System", a new sediment technology that can improve the performance of many hydropower plants throughout the world by reduced investments and increased energy production.

Statkraft (Norwegian Energy Corporation) has licensed the technology, and this patented system have broken new ground in the field of water resources development in river basins with severe sediment loads.

The Serpent Sediment Sluicing has been used in River Tinau in Nepal. Prior to this, it was tested at Svartisen hydropower project in northern Norway.
