Fjord horse
[called fjordhest or more popular, fjording, in Norwegian]
One of the world's oldest and purest breeds. It is believed that the original Fjord horse migrated to Norway and was domesticated over 4,000 years ago.
Famous horses
- Grane,
Sigurd Faavnesbane's horse: he is a hero in the Volsungasaga and several Edda verses, who killed the 'dragon' Faavne and took its gold. He's the same figure as the German Siegfried in 'Niebelungenlied' from the 12th century.
Grane is also the name of Ibsen's Peer Gynt's fantasy horse.
