KinderZeat, or Tripp Trapp by Stokke

STOKKE (TM) KinderZeat® was introduced in 1972, designed by Peter Opsvik. It is known as the Tripp Trapp chair in Norway. It was soon widely accepted as the best European childcare center chair. Children really enjoy the chair, and sit more still. Parents soon understood the benefits. Today it is a household item all over Europe. The US is also discovering the unique chair that grows with the child from baby to teenager.

The STOKKE KinderZeat® and the STOKKE Tripp Trapp are basically the same chairs, marketed under different brand names by different distributors. The difference lies in the restraint system, the US Stokke KinderZeat has a safety strap with a 3-point hitch or lock. The European Tripp Trapp has a wooden bar inserted into slots on the sides. The US version does not have holes to fit the European bar and it is recommended that the KinderZeat chair be used for children 18 months and older. With a Tripp Trapp, a much younger child can sit safely. By personal experience, we can tell you that a child able to sit on the floor by himself for a longer period of time, can also sit in the European Tripp Trapp chair (from around 9 months).

The difference from a regular booster seat is that KinderZeat offers a unique footrest and seat board that are adjustable with the child's growth for individual comfort. The child can sit at the table at the correct height for less messy eating! It is recommended for children 18 months or older.

Several companies have attempted to duplicate the Stokke KinderZeat®, and it is therefore important to ensure that you have purchased this one-of-a-kind chair. The package should come marked with the Stokke logo and trade name. If the chair is already assembled (or in the assembly process), look for the permanent engraved Stokke logos. The Stokke KinderZeat® has the unique "double reversed-L shaped frame," NOT a triangular base/frame. Properly assembled, KinderZeat will not wobble.
